A new battle is fought everyday upon the return of our military veterans and first responders. There is a war within, a silent one that causes so much pain and suffering. PTSD affects about 7.7 million American adults in a given year, though the disorder can develop at any age including childhood. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is often overlooked and/or misdiagnosed by healthcare professionals due to the varying range of symptoms it can present. Symptoms can include strong and unwanted memories of the event, bad dreams, emotional numbness, intense guilt or worry, angry outbursts, feeling “on edge,” and avoiding thoughts and situations that are reminders, “triggers” of the trauma.
With your help, Old Man River Nature Retreat can serve not only our veterans, but first responders as well.
